Club History - Who We Are and What We Do

The Kiwanis Club of Lynnwood, Washington was chartered May 23, 1963 as one of 7,700 clubs in 80 countries. For 53 years the members of the Kiwanis Club of Lynnwood have volunteered their time and energy to serving as a part of Kiwanis International, a worldwide community service organization dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Through fund raising events, the monies raised go back to the community to support various organizations including Lynnwood Food Bank, Mountlake Terrace Concern for Neighbors Food Bank, Kiwanis Camp Casey, Clothes for Kids, Relay for Life, Run to Win and others.  We also support the Edmonds School District needs and provide scholarships for graduating seniors.  As part of the Pacific Northwest District of Kiwanis International we contribute funds to the District Kiwanis Children's Cancer Program to help fund fellowships for research working towards a cure for childhood cancers.  As a part of Kiwanis International we contribute to the International's Project ELIMINATE which partners with UNICEF to provide tetanus immunizations to those in third world countries to help eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus.

Our members volunteer hundreds of hours to hands on community service such as food drive collections, serving meals to children at Everett Casino Road Ministries, assisting at Special Olympics Bowling Tournament, sponsoring and serving as advisors to Key Clubs at Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace High Schoools and a Builders Club at Alderwood Middle School, clean up projects such s pulling invasive English Ivy at Meadowdale Beach Park and clean up at Lynnwood Heritage Park Center, serving pancake breakfast to participants in the Relay for Life Walk and more.

Another facet of Lynnwood Kiwanis (through our 501(c)(3) Foundation) is the planning and holding of fundraising events to raise funds to go to the organizations listed above.  Each year a Charity Golf Tournament is held at the Nile Golf Course.  A second event each year varies but this year it is an Oktoberfest dinner and silent auction and live band held at Northshore Senior Center.

We hope to see you at our fundraising events and invite you to visit us at our weekly Thursday 7:00 am meetings held at the Community Room at Lynnwood Fire Station at 44th and 188th in Lynnwood. Look for us on Facebook as well.
